Dear 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you over the course of the last couple of years, and I have enjoyed having all your students. For those of you who do not know me, I am the 8th grade school counselor, Lisa Dorso.

I am writing to you today to let you know of some very important dates coming up for your 8th grade student. Although the school year has just begun, it is not too soon to start thinking about your high school options. Swift will be hosting a visit from Nonnewaug High School (Agri-Science Program) and Kaynor Technical High School in the next couple of weeks. These presentations are for the students only and will take place during the school day. Both schools will host an open house in the fall where both parents and students can attend to learn more about their programs.

Kaynor's application will be online but will not be live until November 1st. The application posted on their website currently is from last year, and if you complete it, you will have to do it again when the 2022-2023 application becomes live on November 1st. The link can be found on the Kaynor website, Apply tab. https://kaynor.cttech.org

Nonnewaug's application is also online and can be found on their website as well,https://www.ctreg14.org/schools/nonnewaug-high-school. This application is ready for download.

I am currently working with Watertown High School to secure a presentation date as well.

If your student is interested in any private schools, please check their websites for their application process and deadline dates. If you are applying to a school that requires a recommendation titled 'Principal Recommendation,' please forward that recommendation to me as I will be the one to complete it on your student's behalf. Please do not send it to Ms. Lerz, I am the designated school official for completing these forms.

I am planning to go into your student's classroom (most likely history class) to go over all this information by mid-October. I will meet with students who are interested in applying to other high schools in either small groups or individually.

Nonnewaug High School (Agri-Science Program)
